I have two pc's, one has a PC Chips 830 motherboard and
the other one has an ASUS A7V266-E motherboard. For
certain reasons I wanted to swap the motherboards in
these pc's. Both pc's are running Windows XP Pro and once
I try to boot them after the swap they both give me a
blue screen crash and will not boot into Windows. Will
not boot into Windows with Safe Mode either.

Is there anyway I can get these to boot into windows and
detect the new motherboard without having to delete my
old installation of Windows and reinstall?

This is really a pain...only way in the past I've been
able to fix this when I upgrade motherboards is
resinstall Windows.

Thanks!
John

Boot from the CD and perform a repair installation on each machine.

Greetings --

Normally, unless the new motherboard is virtually identical to the
old one (same chipset, IDE controllers, etc), you'll need to perform a
repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at the very least:

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP

This may also require re-activation. If it's been more than 120
days since you last activated that specific Product Key, you'll most
likely be able to activate via the Internet without problem. If it's
been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
