I only use DAP---a third-party program--because it allows me to resume
broken downloads. Why won't XP allow this?

Not all servers allow resuming....
I use GetRight...it is much better and mUCH faster than
Download Accelerator, and is more configurable.

Aren't both spyware though?

DAP is not detected in SpyBot. I use it DAP only to resume broken downloads.
Other than broken-download resumes, the consensus is that DAP does not
really speed anything up, especially for dial-up.

CNET say it is:
Editor's note: This ad-supported software includes technology that will
serve banner advertisments through the program interface.

If you want a clean download manager, Fresh Download from
Fresh Devices works well.

Thanks. Well, Spybot did detect several registry changes afterall for the
advertisements that must come thourgh DAP. It is still hard for me to
consider this spyware though. At any rate, Spybot deleted it all but I am
sure it will appear again when I run DAP.
