i have installed a second hard drive on a windows xp
system, it is visable to device manager, it is enabled
and working correctly. there is no format or
initialization icon avalable with right click in device
manager. the menu reads update drivers: disable:
uninstall: scan for hardware changes: properties. in
properties it says it is enabled and working.

Start/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Storage/disk
management...You should be able to take it from there.

Go Start>Control Panel>Adminstrative Tools>Computer Management> and on the
left panel under storage Select Disk Mangement. Here you can Format the
disk and you may have to Initialize it.
