One other thing... Check the order in which you are
installing everything. Intel recommends O/S first along
with any updates then the INF drivers, then IAA drivers,
then drivers for your devices. I know this is an MSI
board, but its using Intel's 865pe chipset. I would also
recommend doing this set up using the supplied PS/2
adapter then when the system is up and running with all
drivers and updates in place, switch over to USB...

I too have the same prob. It is currently
connected to USB. And does go off
often. The only way it'll go away
is if I reboot!
It does have an adaptor for PS/2.
BUT when you connect a USB mouse to
PS/2, the thing doesn't turn off, when you
shutdown. UNLESS u turn the PC off at the
power.
This is a MS Optical Wheelmouse.

Make sure USB power properties are set to "always on" or in
the mouse properties my MS Trackball Optical with
IntelliPoint software has a check box "allow this device to
bring computer out of standby" which means the USB port will
stay ON.

I have the same mouse and, yes, I do have the USB
connected to PS/2 AND, yes it does turn off when I
shutdown AND NO I don't need to reach around back to kill
the power to the case to get my mouse to shut off.

You must have your system to wake on an event from the mouse and/or keyboard
ps/2 ports. Turn off that feature, and your mouse will go out.
