Since I didn't get a sensible response yesterday, I'll try again--
When I turn on my machine and it boots up, everything on the screen is BIG!
If I right click on my desktop and open "Display Properties" and go
to"Settings", I find that it is set on 640 x 480 pixels. I change this to
800 X 600, click on "Apply" and "OK" and all is well until the next time I
shut down and restart. It always starts in the 640 X 480 mode no matter
what I do.
How can I "lock in" the 800 X 600 pixel settings??

The response by Lee yesterday to your original post was perfectly sensible.
He suggested Graphics drivers hence prompting you as the user to go and
research into your video card drivers.
Therefore, as your operating system is not retaining the video settings you
require, it would not be unreasonable to suggest you firstly post what Video
card you have, and what Monitor your have also.
Then people can then start to suggest what drivers you may want to download.
Regardless, go to the manufaturers web site of your video card ad download
the latest display drivers for it.
Install them and see if that solves the problem. You may also want to go to
your monitor maufacturers web site and get updated drivers for your monitor.
Ensure your monitor is capable of going abive 640x480 - See, we don't know
as we have no information on any of your hardware.

Thanks for the explaination. I don't mean to be so dense, but didn't
understand what he was saying. I am running a 32MB ATI Rage Ultra Graphics
card, according to my invoice, and a Dell M782 Flat CRT Monitor.
I will start digging to see if I can find appropriate drivers. Maybe I'll
stumble my way through, but surely they are available through Dell.
I just installed a new hard drive, and many things have not functioned quite
right since.
Thanks for the help--
