Modem Disappears? READ THIS!

If anyone is curious as to why the Device Manager in XP
Pro does not "see" their modem and include it permentley,
I have the answer. As follows;

XP Pro will only search for connected modems on start-up.
XP will ignore any modem not connected and powered up on
start-up. XP will not remember the modem when last used.

I believe there is no fix, or easy fix, for this.

And as to why, maybe someone from Microsoft can
explain................????
