View Full Version : ImageMate SanDisk reader causes XP to hang

I have an ImageMate model SDDR-73 SanDisk reader. When I
plug it in, XP recognizes it no problem and creates the
drives. As soon as I try to access a card in the reader,
XP hangs. The reader works fine on my laptop with Windows
2000 so I know it is XP, not the reader. My PC is a
Compaq Presario. Any help would be appreciated.

See if SanDisk has an XP-specific driver for the reader at their WEBsite.

I flately believe that you are incorrect. XP has drivers for some
generic USB functions. XP does not have drivers natively for most USB
devices. USB is becoming the bane of XP for just this reason. USB plug
and play is generally not recognized for what "plug and play" actually
means. It means that when the drivers are available, one can plug a USB
device and it will function. Many USB devices require vendor drivers
because XP does not have them. The proper, and only safe course is to
determine from the vendor installation instructions if XP has drivers.
If not, then the drivers must normally be installed before the USB
device is connected to the computer for the first time. Failure to do
this is the cause of a significant fraction of requests for assistance
with failed devices.

Thanks but in this case, Win XP does have specific drivers
for the SanDisk ImageMate device. In fact, the docs from
the SanDisk people say so - no drivers needed in XP - and
none are provided on the thier web site that I could
find. I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem and
how they resolved it. thanks for the posts...

I've got the same problem. The thing worked for awhile,
then now it comes up "unknown device". Normally, you
would re-install the driver, but needless to say because
it's this "great built-in driver", I can't re-install the
driver!!!

I which case you need to delete the device from Device Manager
shutdown and reboot and get Windows to redetect it!
