My Computer does not show that I have an A:\ Drive
It was showing not to long ago, but now it does not.
I look in device driver under floppy drive and it show
that it is working properly yet the light on the drive is
always on.
I have done the usual adding new hardware, and even tried
another floppy drive same results. the drive is a
Mitsumi..if that is any help.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get my
computer to recognize the floppy drive?

Have you recently been mucking about inside your computer case? Sounds like
the ribbon cable has been reversed.

The ribbon has a slot that allows it to only go on one way
And mucking about was only to see if the floppy ribbon
had been jared loose or something like that..
any other help? I'm using Windows XP Pro..
Thanks fro the reply

Check in your bios and see if it has been enabled to read/write and that you
don't have B enabled. Then check the connector cable that attaches to your
motherboard and reverse that. In my Mitsumi the split part of the floppy
cable (be sure you have a floppy cable and not a standard CD-ROM or HDD
cable on it) is on the left but they vary by drive. When the light is
always on, it is usually a faulty or incorrectly installed cable. I've
never had a floppy drive to fail in itself, as yet, but there is always a
first time.

Forgot to add, the split part is the part that attaches to the floppy drive.
Sorry.

enabled or not..if it has I have not a clue as to how it
got that way for I never mess with the BIOS.. If you

ant other Ideas you might have..E-mail me at

If you are asking for step-by-step instructions on how to check/set
your BIOS, boy are you in trouble. There are some many variations of
BIOS that unless somebody is sitting there with you, they will
probably NEVER be able to give you step-by-step help.

Depending on what Bios you have there should be a line to enable your floppy
drive a and enable read/write. When the computer boots click delete key and
enter the bios. With AMI or Phoenix (Award) it will be in different places
so you will need to hunt for it. If you have never been in a bios before
you will need to read this: http://www.sysopt.com/m2.html ,
http://howto.lycos.com/lycos/step/1,,139+24491+6241,00.html ,
http://www.pcguide.com/ref/mbsys/bios/set/std.htm ,
http://www.buildeasypc.com/sw/bios_setup.htm ,
http://www.phoenix.com/en/customer+services/white+papers-specs/product+documentation/phoenix_award_bios.htm ,
http://www.computerhope.com/help/ami.htm ,
http://www.dewassoc.com/support/bios/bioshelp.htm .
http://www.buildeasypc.com/sw/bios_setup_scf.htm which displays the floppy.
