Hi,
I can't get into regedit. I've tried regedit and regedt32 to no avail. The screen comes up but after a second, or two, it goes away.
Any ideas what might be causing this? How to fix it?
Many thanks.

Hi Tony,
Look in C:\Windows for the file regedit.exe.
If it is not there go to C:\windows\system32\dllcache. And copy regedit.exe from there to C:\windows.

Hi Tony,
If a restriction were in place, you would recieve a notice/warning message.
However, if this is not the only .exe that isn't functioning properly, run
these edits:
EXE Fix for Windows XP - Line 12 (Restores EXE association)

Restore lnk association: (Line 12) Link File Fix for Windows XP
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
To test the .exe theory, rename regedit.exe to regedit.com and try again.
If a policy restriction is in place:
For Pro: Go to Start/Run and type in: gpedit.msc
User Configuration/Administrative Templates/System: Scroll down to Prevent
access to registry editing tools. Set it to disabled.
Disable or Enable Registry Editing Tools (Line 213)

This may also be a symptom of the W32.Yaha.K virus, or one of its variants.
Symatec has an automated removal tool here:

Be sure to follow all the instructions.
