Hi,

The cd rom that I have been using for a long time won't work. The power
is working due to being able to eject disks. I re-installed "had New
Hardware" after deleting old cd from device manager.

I can see the F:\ in My Computer and Explorer tree. When I put in disks,
I do not see the program icon next to the drive in explorer.

when I click on the icon the following error message appears:

F:\ is not accessible
The Drive Is Not Ready

http://www.dougknox.com/ has a fix for WXP losing it's CD/DVD drives (under
Win XP Fixes). He's a Microsoft MVP. Another good site is
http://www.mvps.org/ which gives a lot of good answers for these problems.
Our XP lost the CD drives on a regular basis until we applied this fix.
Personally, I love W2K (nary a problem) but the rest of the family can't
live without XP.
