What is the best this box can do in terms of a video card upgrade? It's a:

300W PSU
512MB RAM
Celeron 466Mhz CPU

.... and currently has a 8MB ATI Rage Pro installed.

Does it have an AGP slot?
(PLEASE REPLY IN NEWSGROUP)

If so.. There aren't too mny limits.. Just get yourself a nice 9xxx series
64MB or greater ATI video card or a nice GeForce4 series card.

If it does not have an AGP slot, but has a free PCI slot (or the old card is
in a PCI slot) - then there are fewer options, but EVERYTHING is better. heh

Yes, it does have an AGP slot. 1x/2x I believe. However, I'm told that
the CPU is the limit to how well a card can perform so there's no
point in me buying a super card when it's going to be limited, I
think?

most graphics cards have their own built in cpu, so you don't have to worry
about the one in your computer.
It really depends on how much you want to spend, for about $100 you can get
an Nividia GeForce 440MX w/64mb, and it comes in two flavors!!!,,....AGP and
PCI.

But the GeForce4 MX series isn't really any better than a GeForce2
performance-wise. For that same $100 you could get a new GeForceFX 5200 w/
128MB in either AGP or PCI. For a PCI card that will give the best graphics
that the PCI interface can handle/deliver. For an AGP card, the 5200 is
excellent for the price, but there are still better cards out there if you
have more money to invest. I.E. the GeForceFX 5900.
