Can I specify what drive letter(s) a USB device should
use? I have got a 6-in-1 USB card reader, and the system
automatically maps the drives F to I to the device when I
plug the reader in. Unfortunately, G & H drives are
already used as network drives so they are not
recognized. Can I specify the USB card reader to use,
say, drives M to P instead? Thanks.

You can try....Go into Control Panel, Administrative Tools and then Computer
Management..Go down the 'tree' to Disk Management and into the drive letters
already assigned, there you will see the letter assigned to that one you
want to change.. In the box to the right (you will see 2 panes, go to the
larger of the 2) you will follow this easier when you get there...Right
clcik on it and that will bring-up the options, 1 of which is to change the
letter....
It sounds difficult the way i am describing it, but once you get there you
will see that it is easy..

Usually you can't change the 'root drive' letter (exmple if it were the C
drive you were trying to change) but the other should be o.k... Microsoft is
fussy about drive letter assignments and they are right, because you mess
too much and you 'mess-up' if you know what i mean...I have a similiar
situation with USB card reader, usb add-in HD etc and i just let XP do the
assignments, but i don't think there is any reason you shouldn't set it up
the way you want; after all, that is why the option is there, right?
