An unknown flashing Yes or No sign- HELP PLEASE!

There is someting that flashes on my computer screen. It wants me to answer yes or no I can make that much out, but it flashes so fast that I can't catch it and click on it. Sometimes it is so stong that it shuts down what I'm working on on line. Just a mi
nute ago I was typing a letter in my e-mail and away went MSN. My connection was still on, but the letter I wrote and MSN was gone. When I type and it flashes it makes me my typing stop in mid sentence and jumps me down two or three spaces. It is not only
when I go online it hapens all the time. If I'm working in adobe photoshop and this thing flashes my work


will stop (see it flashed and it skipped me down to here) I don't know what to do about it. I don't know where to begin to look for a solution. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you virus checked your system with the latest definitions for your =
AV program and also checked for any spyware that may be on your system:

Hi Picturelady--

This could *well be* spyware or malware--and kicking them off frequently is
a good thing anyway.

Doubt has to do with Photoshop. Try these steps:

1)Rt. click taskbar>Taskmanager>Processes--see any you don't recognize. You
can always google them or check them out at
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

2) Definitely download/run (regularly) Ad Aware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

3) Definitely download/run Spybot S&D:
http://www.safer-networking.org/

4) Use spyblaster pre-emptively:
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

5) In you Run Box (Windows Key +R) or Start>run Type (lose quotes)
"eventvwr.exe" or "eventvwr.msc" and see if you get any hint at an error or
event by looking at the lists by clicking on "Application" and
"System"--Expand the box and click on the entries. You can often get a clue
to flashing error messages, events, transient dialogue boxes like yours by
associating the time of the event.

6) Run a viral scan for good measure.

Thanks Will and Chad for answering so fast. I have Norton Works and download the updates for viruses everyday. scan the computer at least once or twice a week. There is nothing. When it flashes it wants me to click yes or no to something, but it's too fa
st.

The difficulty of dealing with a transient flashing screen can sometimes be
overcome by #5 in my previous suggestion--using event viewer. Your mention
of a supervisor password and that you have Norton System Works on your
machine reminds me of times when a Norton product misbehaves for a variety
of reasons and tells you you can't use it or uninstall it because you're not
the "Norton Supervisor." The use of the term supervisor often has to do
with a Norton product. I'd try to uninstall Norton System Works from
Add/Remove if you can, and Norton Internet Security or Firewall if you have
it, and then reinstall them. This may solve your problem. Symantec has
KBs on this-- and you can search for them at
http://www.symantec.com/index.htm

The best way to get current viral definitions using Norton AV is to use
Intelligent Updater. Live Update usually does not update definitions except
on Wednesdays. You can download from the Intelligent Update site every
Mon-Fri in the PM and at times on the weekends (it did yesterday for some
reason). See and use the top link every Mon-Friday. You can drag the
little "e" to your desktop at the top left corner of the window on the
namebar of the web page linked below and access this to update definitions
daily.
