My situation: running 3 hard drives, C: 10 gig with xp pro OP sytem only and
two 120 gig drives, D and E. I'm using D drive to install all my programs
and applications and E drive for storage only (niether drive is
partitioned).
Need more storage space so I would like to create a 40 gig partition on D
drive and use the rest for storage.
My question is, do I need an application like partition magic to do this or
is there another way ?

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

XP's DiskPart utility is only capable of partitioning a hard drive that =
is "empty".
For example, if you were to install a new second drive, DiskPart can be
used to partition and format it. DiskPart cannot segregate current =
files from
free space, therefore, only a sophisticated third-party partitioning =
program
can accomplish this task.

The only way you can delete, create, resize or merge existing =
partitions,
and not harm your existing Programs installation, is to use
a third-party partitioning program such as Partition Magic 8
(www.powerquest.com).

Take the files you've saved on the third drive and copy them to the
second drive. Then you can use XP's disk management tool and then
copy the files back onto the third drive.
