View Full Version : Show Desktop

I had some issues with outlook on my system and in fixing them I had to
resort to a system restore point. I first went back one day then one week
before the problems were resolved. Now I no longer have an icon for 'Show
Desktop' in my quick launch bar. I even set up a new user and logged in so
that I'd see what a new profile would have. Nope, not there either...
How can I get it back? It's not a big issue, just an annoyance when I have
15 things open and need to see my desktop.

If the Show Desktop icon is deleted from Quick Launch, the procedure below
will recreate the file.
Open Notepad and enter the following text:
[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop
Save the new file as Show Desktop.scf then drag and drop the icon on the
Quick Launch bar or whatever location you want the shortcut to appear.

Remember, when you have 15 things open, it is usually easier to use
the "WINDOWS" key+ the D key to show the desktop than to move the
mouse to the taskbar.

I know the keyboard shortcuts, but I don't always have my hands on my
keybaord whereas my hand is almost always on the mouse when I need to get to
the desktop.
I've re-created the icon, which is what I was asking how to do, thanks to
the suggestions from Gary and Doug.
