View Full Version : Gravis Gamepad Pro Problem-Please help

I've got a gravis gamepad pro (gameport version). It worked fine under XP
until I installed Gravis's Xperience 4.5 drivers. Because of conflicts
between the Xperience 4.5 drivers and other programs, I deleted the Gravis
Xperience drivers. Unfortunately, that also removed XP's native support for
the Gravis Gamepad Pro. Gravis confirmed this issue, but offered no
assistance (Thanks Gravis for crappy drivers, crappy uninstall, and crappy
support.). Does anyone know how I can restore XP's native support for the
Gravis Gamepad Pro, short of reinstalling Windows XP?

Hi edelbeb,

Use Win XP's System Restore to return your system to a previously stable date:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/gethelp/systemrestore.asp

If that fails, there are other options such as Start /Run / type: SFC /scannow
or use the repair installation option to rebuild your windows system files.

Thanks, but I had the Gravis drivers for quite some time before this
happened, so system restore is out (acutally I use GoBack rather than system
restore).

I recently ran a repair install to switch my to APIC from PIC, but that did
not bring back the WinXP drivers (although the Gravis drivers may have been
installed at the time). The repair install went ok, but reinstalling WinXP
updates (even w/ cable modem) took awhile. I'm not planning on doing a
repair reinstall again unless either I have to or I am sure it will solve
the problem. I've run sfc /scannow before, but I may try that again. I'd
just be happy if someone had a reg file and perhaps some WinXP drivers to
send me or point me too. Guess I'm lazy.

The Gravis drivers screw up the works. I think xpcpmain.exe (the gravis
control panel) has some incompatibilities with GoBack and/or Logitech's
mouse drivers. I think WinXP's native drivers are probably more stable.

Hi!

Fair enough, mind you, I would try that before installing XP
over itself. Previously you mentioned having done a repair
installation, however, you can also install XP over the same
installation you have presently to avoid reinstalling software,
and losing your data. Backup "My Documents" to be safe.

I have an empty 30 GB drive that I use for capturing and editing video.
It's also handy for back up the all the data on my c: partition. What's the
difference in effect (and the need to reinstall updates, etc.) between a
repair reinstall and installing WinXP over itself?

I'll try the sfc bit when I get a chance. I'm not sure keeping the Gravis
gamepad is worth a great deal of effort. More of an annoyance that it
doesn't work than it's a necessity to get it working.
