I'm currently building a new computer using an ASUS
P4C800 Deluxe mobo. OS is WIndows XP. Do I or should I
install the Intel Application Accelerator program as
suggested by ASUS? What is the benefit of this program?
In the past, I have had problems when I installed the
Intel Accelerator. Specifically, I ended up with dual
hard dive letters and icons. Any feedback would be
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello Pete

I am currently using that same Brd and my setup is (2) 120hd wd
with a 16X SCSI cdrom Yahama, Samsung DVD Ram Drive, internal
Iomega zip 100, SB Audigy Platium Card, Raid 0, Intel p4 2.4 800FSB
with PC2700 512 ram stick, and runs great no problems, I did do a
bios update, but to this day I have never installed that Intel App
Accerator
I have had the brd running for about 3weeks and it's great. So if you
want to install go for it, but really you don't need it, one more thing
OS is XP Pro with SP1, 1A and all updates

The app is not really necessary with the latest version of Xp (SP1). It was
used to fix a problem where certain Intel based boards (mainly servers) had
anything above DMA66 disabled. But you should have no problem running that
board without IAA. Just check
that yoru drives are UDMA-5 in the IDE controller.

The Intel Application Accelerator driver is used to boost the =
performance=20
of RAID 0 function of the ICH5R south bridge on P4C800. To install the=20
Intel Application Accelerator driver, it is required to configure two=20
SATA HDDs as one RAID drive (known as RAID 0) in advance.=20
If no RAID 0 drive is present on SATA connectors, there is no need=20
to install or use the Intel Application Accelerator driver.=20
