Picked up a radeon 7500, have a real old diamond viper v330 in it now, tried
the remove hardware, and just popping in new card, the darn thing locks up
at the starting windows screen in XP home edition. It will boot in VGA mode
and safe mode, but it wont boot normally, I can stick the old card back in
and it will start up fine. Any help appreciated.

You have to uninstall the old drivers first, then go into Control panel and
uninstall the card.
Shut Down (don't reboot).
Install new card.
Boot computer.
Install drivers for new card.

You should remove the drivers for the old video adapter before you
remove it. The system will revert to standard VGA which is
supported by all video adapters. When you are asked to restart the
computer, select No and turn the computer off instead. Install the
new video adapter and reboot. The new adapter will be detected and
Windows will attempt to load compatible drivers. You can interrupt
the process to install the included drivers.
ATI is very particular about old drivers. You have to even remove
old Radeon drivers before you can install an updated driver.

How do you interupt windows and stop it from loading
whatever drivers it thinks might be compatible when you
start up with the new card?

No one has yet mentioned whether he has the PCI version or the AGP
version.\\\
