Dear all,

I moved a Windows XP Pro SP1 workstation from a single CPU motherboard to a
Dual-CPU motherboard, and would like to change the HAL from ACPI to
Uni/multi-processor ACPI. However, when I choose update driver from the
Device Manager, it only shows Standard PC or the ACPI HAL and does not allow
me to "choose" the Uni/Multiprocessor ACPI HAL.

Is there any other ways / tricks to do this?

Before that, I tried to change a Multiprocessor ACPI HAL to a ACPI HAL
(single CPU) and successfully move the Windows XP into a different hardware
config machine. It is so strange that I cannot do the reverse way?

Thank you for your help,
Vincent

Boot from the Windows CD, and where it says to Press F6 to supply a driver
disk, press F5. That will tell XP to let you pick the appropriate HAL, and
then go forward to a Repair install of XP. I don't mean from the recovery
console, I mean the one where you pick directory C::\Windows, and then press
R to repair.
