The problem is reported in the Event Viewer as a Win32
error code 0(0x0) returned by the print processor with
Event ID:61.
Dear All,
I have a new Time Computers Powerstation+ with a XP2600
AMD Athlon processor. I have an existing HP 720C printer
(listed by MicroSoft as fully XP compatible) that I am
having a lot of difficulty installing correctly.
My wife, logged on as a limited user (as distinct from my
administrator user account), uses the printer ok. Even
when we change her account to an administrator the
printer still works ok. The only time the problem occurs
in my wife's account is when we are both logged on at the
same time. The problem occurs 99% of the time when I am
logged on alone.
The installation appears to complete satisfactorily (port
lpt1 etc), but, when I try to print, the printer rarely
responds at all. Very rarely, in WORD, it responds from
file>print or from double clicking the print icon. I
have never been able to get it to print e-mail. It is
always set as the default printer (it is the only
printer).
When I first connected the printer it was detected as new
hardware. Now sometimes, at start-up, I get a "New
Hardware Detected" message again, though the printer is
already installed.
I have very carefully followed the Add Pinter Wizard
using the manual procedure recommended - and described in
detail - by the HP web site for installing the HP 720C
driver supplied with the XP operating system.
From the Control Panel>Printers and Faxes I have
reinstalled from scratch a number of times, having first
deleted the printer icon and removed the driver via Print
Server Properties, but to no avail - the same problem
always re-appears. Occasionally a message has popped up
from the bottom task bar announcing that the printer is
incorrectly installed, though this has not happened
recently.
I noticed on Print Server Properties>Drivers that INTEL
is listed as the Environment. Is this a clue to my
problem, since an AMD Athlon is my processor and
presumably therefore AMD is the Environment?
Searching the MicroSoft Knowledge Base I have not been
able to recognise any similar problem described.
What should I do? I WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE YOUR
CONSIDERED OPINION
