Here's a fun one! I have a laptop which dosn't like
running any software! Basically, any program which takes
the processor up to 100% for any length of time causes
the processor to overheat and the PC shuts down.

I have looked at various things and have received the
battery update under Q328915 and a further bios update
from manufacturer, which appear to have fixed the problem
whereby the battery caused the 100% CPU usage.

Does Speedstep (from Intel) do any good?

If anyone has any ideas as I am getting withdrawal
symptoms from Homeworld ;)

How old is the laptop and where do you use it? It is
probably full of dust, cat hair and lint.

Take it to a qualified repair shop unless you are qualified
and have it opened and cleaned. While it is open check the
fan(s) for bearing wear and operation.

If your notebook computer is still under warranty, then bring it in for
warranty services.

Are you working with it on your lap or a desk. They can overheat if you
have them on your laptop. They tend to dissipate heat from the bottom.
