View Full Version : Updating Drivers

Yesterday I was playing Z:Steel Soldiers when my computer
crashed. The error report indicated that it was due to a
driver problem. I sent the report of to Microsoft as
always and decided to update the graphics driver through
the device manager screen. I clicked to update the driver
of my graphics card and was told to insert the CD that
came with the computer. This I did and the install
process appeared to begin before I was told that the
drivers I was about to install of the CD were NOT
digitally signed by Microsoft so I decided against
continuing the installation. I did not actually uninstall
the drivers, I just tried to update them by right
clicking on the display adapters icon and then on unpdate
driver but no luck.

I am currently downloading the latest Detonator FX
drivers version 44.03 from Nvidia for my Geforce2 MX/MX
400 card. Will these comply with Micrsofts digital
signature and how do I go about installing downloaded
drivers? If they dont any recommendations? I hope to get
the whole thing done in one go!

This is the first time Ive experienced a crash on this
system that was due to a driver problem. I have not tried
to reinstall drivers other than the episode dictated
above which I gave up on after being informed the drivers
were not signed. I did download Direct X9 yeterday but
that was AFTER the original crash. The only other
alterations to the system will have been new
installations of games for example and saved word/excel
documents.

My system is Windows XP
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
256DDR ram
onboard sound
not sure of motherboard/bios
graphics card Geforce 2 MX?MX 400

Thanks for any help!

Ps How could I email Microsoft about this?

Do not worry about the "Not Digitally Signed Drives" report. This has
nothing to do with installing a driver. It only means that the Manufacturer
did not pay MS for the rights to have their drivers digitally signed by MS.
You can safely install these drivers. Infact, none of the Drivers on my
system are MS Digitally signed(well maybe a couple). My NVidia card, NIC,
Printer, Burner, Scanner, and Sound card has never used a digitally signed
driver to date. System runs great.
So do not let that deter you. It will be highly likely that the Detonator
driver you are getting ready to install will show the same as the last one
you did not install.

Glad to help out Andrew.
You will run into this with other manufacturers drivers also. Just do not
worry about it. It's just MS's way of using scare tatics on unsuspecting
users.
