i've been successfully running msn messenger 6.1 for the
past few months. all of a sudden last week, it tried to
reinstall the program when i tried to run it, and at the
end of the attempted installation, it says:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly
component
{874793FC-5F43-496A-8FE7-18C4DB9B143D}.
HRESULT: -2147024864

and when i quit the installation program (which is the
only option), a popup message comes up saying "fatal
error during installation".

pls tell me what i can do to fix this...i've tried
downloading the setup file from a number of different
places-microsoft's website, msn's website, etc. etc. and
i've tried removing and reinstalling, tried repairing the
installation, none of it works...still, every time i run
the program, it gives an error message saying something
about there being an application configuration error and
i needed to reinstall.

Greetings Gabe,

Yes you can, simply click the Tools menu, then Options, then Privacy tab and right-click
their display name in either the allow or block list. If the 'Delete' option *isn't* grayed
out, then they've removed you from their contact list. If it is grayed out, then you're
still on their list.
