Changed cpu and motherboard, Win XP PRO is the operating
system. Hard drive the same. Boots fine, and starts
windows but proceeds part way through the win XP PRO
load. Stops with a blank blue screen. Any thoughts or
comments ...

You'll need to do an inplace Repair Install of XP.
When you boot to the CD, just follow along like you will do a new install
skipping past the first option to Repair. There will be a second option to
repair the installation. Choose that one. You may have to re-install some
programs when finished, but your data will still be there as long as you do
not tell it to format the drive.

Hi D W

After a major hardware change, such as the one you have completed, you will
at least need to do a repair install (also known as an in-place upgrade).

For details on this procedure see the following Knowledge Base article

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q315341&ID=KB;EN-US;Q315341

After doing this you may need to re-activate your installation of XP. If it
has been more than 120 days since you last re-activated you should be able
to activate over the internet, otherwise it will require a short phonecall.

After the repair install you will need to re-install any XP service packs
and updates.

Hope that helps
Pete

You need to do a Repair Install of Windows XP as per the instructions
at http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

This will preserve all of your installed applications, user data
files, and program configurations. However any Windows Updates will
have to be reinstalled.

Good luck
