I have sucessfully sent faxes but some state 'no answer' when I know their fax is up & running? someone's mentioned type 1 & type 2 faxes? wot's the difference and wot do I do to get the fax to go thru?

Might help if you give a little more detail, like what fax machine you are
using?

The fact that you have sent some faxes successfully suggests that the fax
function works ok.. maybe you are not entering the fax numbers correctly..
are you missing any prefix to the numbers?.. does it just happen with long
distance numbers?.. if the faxes are not going through, then either the
number is wrong or the other machines are in fact turned off..
