View Full Version : Detecting the program controlling the COM port

How do I figure out what program or service is
controlling my COM port? I'm trying to set up
Hyperterminal to use COM1; but, it says that it is
already in use. I have eliminated the usual suspects
(Activesynch, etc...) and am still having the problem.

THanks,

Jay

Dear Jay,

This issue could be caused by incorrect Serial Port Configuration, we can
check the Event Viewer to see if there is any more detailed information
logged. For more information, we can refer to this article:

Error Messages Caused by Incorrect Serial Port Configuration WGID:162
ID: 112584.KB.EN-US
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;112584

If you confirmed there is no other hardware connected to the com1 port, we
can try solving this issue by uninstalling and reinstalling the COM ports
from the "Device Manager".

Please let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing
from you.

Sincerely,
