can no log on to messenger!!! firewall??

I am unable to log onto messenger. also I cannot log
onto yahoo messenger or access videos or get into gaming
servers...like battlenet. I tried turning off my norton
firewall as well as my windows firewall.

All of these things are telling me that it cannot find a
connection to the server. even though i am connected to
the internet. what do i do next???
