Making Coolpix 990 work in Windows XP

I have downloaded the latest version of Nikon View
Software (NKver6) and installed
it in my computer but unfortunately I still could not use
my Nikon Coolpix 990 with Windows XP. While installing
the software, this message came up on
the screen: ...what you are trying to install has not
passed Windows Logo
Testing...etc...I just bypassed this message anyway and
continued with the installation, as advised by Nikon.
I've updated the version of Windows XP to the one that
already included the patch to fix the problem but Im
still having some problems. After doing all this, I still
could not access the images from my camera using the
computer. I would appreciate any help I could get.

Does XP even recognize that the camera is attached? Did you install the
software before attaching the camera? Are you sure that the cable you are
using is a good one?

I have a Coolpix 885, I don't use the Nikon software. I plug in the USB
cable, XP sees the camera and I download the pictures - no problem.
