Volume Multimedia Mixer Panel will not Open in Windows XP Pro

I am running Windows XP Pro, and every time that I double click on the
volume icon in the tray, it is supposed to open the Volume Multimedia Mixer
panel, but it just minimizes to the taskbar, and will not open back up.

Any ideas?
