helpme with error messages

could anyone help my computer freezes all the time and
all i can do is switch of the power, when i go to the
error log file it always has these errors
A parity error was detected on \device\ide\idePort0
the driver detectedf a controller error on
\Device\Hardisk0\D
can anyone tell me what these mean and how to fiux them.

Hmm. Alison, make sure you have copies of your hate-to-lose-them files, if
possible. Then, do this:

Click START.
Click RUN.
Type this without quotes - "cmd"
<enter>
Type this without quotes - "chkdsk c: /v/r"
<enter>

It will tell you it cannot run now, blah blah blah. Say yes, and reboot.
Watch what messages pop up while it runs the check.
