"The green terminal?" What the heck's that? The only 'green terminal' on my
system is the PS/2 for the mouse - surely you're not advising she plug her
speakers into /THAT/? Please be aware that not everyone's computer will be
the same as yours - so you're going to have the poor woman looking for
something that, on her system, probably doesn't exist!

To the original poster, please follow the checklist below for help: -

Seriously, we're going to need some more information if we're going to be
able to assist you - please remember that no-one is psychic, we don't have
crystal balls, nor can we see your computer.

How do you know that the speakers aren't working? Have you hooked them up to
another machine with a known working sound card? How do you know it isn't
because you've not downloaded and installed the latest driver for the sound
card you have in this machine (if it is a card - it may just be an on-board
chip, in which case you'd need to visit the manufacturer of your computer or
motherboard). Don't blame the speakers - as that's the same thing as blaming
the monitor for the fact your display is corrupt (it may be the case but you
should always check you've installed the correct drivers and that your
graphics card is seated correctly).

So the checklist should go something like this: -

1) Have I checked that the speaker set up is correct and that my sound
isn't muted (Control Panel > Sounds)?
2) Have I visited the manufacturer's website and downloaded the latest
drivers for my card or chip?
3) Have I installed them correctly, according to the advice given by the
manufacturer?
4) If that fails, have I checked the speakers on another system with a
known working card/chip?
5) If that fails, swap the cards. Put the card from your system into
another and the known working card into yours (of course, if yours is merely
an on-board chip, then this is impossible without dismembering the entire
system). You can still test the known working card from another machine
(borrow one from a friend) in yours by disabling the on-board sound (see
your computer manual).

If the above all fails then it's something more serious (hint: - I don't
think you'll need to go past 3)).

Post back with more information, please.
