last week i installed the necessary software for new DSL
use and also the software for a wireless router.
everything was going well until i decided to turn off my
computer (for the first time since installing the
software)when i went away for the weekend. upon my
return i turned on my computer and the windows xp logo
that appears in startup was on my screen for over 30 min
seemingly trying to boot up my computer. i pressed the
reboot button and an error message appeared stating that
windows did not start successfully and that a recent
hardware or software change might have caused this.
there was then a list of safe mode options and a choice
to go back to the last known good configuration. i
selected this option but the same thing happened. so i
rebooted again and went into safe mode. assuming that
the DSL software was the problem since it was the last
thing i installed for the past few months, i went in and
removed all of the software and also unplugged all of the
wires going into my CPU from the router. i then rebooted
my computer and no change. i called my DSL provider and
they weren't of much help. they suggested that it may be
a corrupted file which happened while my computer was
still on last week. a file that didn't pose a problem
until my computer was turned off. i am at a loss... i
can't figure out what the problem is or how to fix it.
please help.
thanks, chelsea
