Hello all,

This may be a dumb question but it seems to me that a lot
of the problems associated with WinXP were "supposedly"
fixed by going into the registry and deleting some filters,
either upper or lower or both. Here's my question:

How are these filters creating the problems? and
If these filters are so problematic, why even include them
in the registry?

Hello

I would not do that and stay out of the registry if you can
always ok. You can create more problems for your self if you
are not sure what your doing.

Alvin - You are not answering this person's question. Did you even read it?

Sleepless - The "filters" seem to relate to cd and dvd drives, and the
programs that write to them. Certain badly behaved programs alter these
filter definitions in the registry to suit themselves, and when in the
course of events one deletes these programs, the registry entries are not
returned to the defaults. Therefore, the system cannot properly work with
these cd/dvd drives. The fixes offered here and elsewhere return the filter
entries to the default so that Windows will work with the drives properly.
Old versions of Adaptec CD Creator seem to have been the worst offenders in
this regard.

Hope this helps.
