Application Error

When trying to install several different forms of software
on a laptop with Windows XP Professional I get the
following error message:

WOWEXEC caused a General Protection Fault in module
MMSYSTEM.DLL at 000A:0032.

Choose close. WOWEXEC will close.

These same programs were installed on other computers with
the same setup.

I tried the windows updates and that did not seem to help.
