xp & fdisk ,format

OK so I bought a new cd-rw to upgrade and burn cd's. But
when I opened case of Compaq 5000US found MUCH dust and
nicotine/tar (they tell you not to smoke aeound but wife
refused) around CPU fan and sys. fan. So to make story
short I removed CPU fan and processor fell out and bent
pins on rear.Bought new Mother board and cpu as well as
new fan, power supply and memory, cause the price was
right and I figured while at it uprades could not hurt.
WELL sales man decided I didn't need to know that all
compaq software was now null and void and I cannot get
Win XP to reload as it was loaded at factory and I only
have authenticity statement. so I tried to load 98 or 95
and neither would fully load. I am told I need to fdisk
and format hard drive but can't find info for XP and my
98 book says I cannot fully remove 98 from a fat32 file
sys. Can someone point me in right direction????
LOST or panicked for no reason??

boot from cdrom - dont install windows =- boot to dos with cdrom support one
in dos prompt type Fdisk - tadda :)


and yes that compaq software is only good on a comapq mobo.
