Hi all,
I just converted this machine to XP Pro.
The properties of this newsgroup are shown as
C:\Documents and Settings----\microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics.dbx.
But when I perform a search for *.dbx, I only have 2 files showing, and this
newsgroup isn't one of them.
When I had ME on this machine, a search of *.dbx would pull up
a list of .dbx files on the machine. XP doesn't seem to. So,
what's the difference? And where do files go that I read
here when it says it's downloading?
Thanks,
Mark

Ok, nevermind the first part. I found the *.dbx files.
I had to set the Advanced search options to show hidden
files. The second part still puzzles me though. Where
does the stuff go when you read it online and it says it's
downloading?
Thanks,
Mark

Into your DBX files. It's a good idea to save any attachments or embedded
pictures from newsgroups messages that you want to keep outside of your OE.
That way you can periodically use Tools> Options> Maintenance to remove the
message contents for your newsfolders. Follow it up with a Compact of the
databases. (Manual compacting preferred over automatic. Automatic has
historically been known to cause problems with the OE message store.)
For rendering messages while reading, OE will place a few files into your
Temporary Internet Files folder. If not cleaned up when you move to the next
message, these usually end up as 0 byte files. Clearing Temporary Internet
Files and checking the box for "offline content" will clean up any strays.
To learn more about OE and how it works, visit:

Also check out the OE Tools page while there. You'll find some useful
add-ins there.

Keep in mind that this has nothing to do with XP, but with Outhouse
Express.
