i've tried several different sound dirvers in my pc but
win xp has this signature thing which dosent allow it to
install.Although in win 98 my drivers were perfectly
installed why win xp has to be so disturbing.

Since I have the same problem at this time, please allow me to post to
this thread as well with my own problem statement; however, mine is
not a signature problem.
I have an old ISA soundcard, Ensoniq Soundscape with Opus wave table I
want to try to get going in a WinXP system. I've heard that Win2000
drivers can be made to work (I haven't found these drivers yet), but
first I'd like to try forcing the WinXP generic soundcard drivers to
load on this pnp soundcard.
How is this done exactly? I've tried forcing a specific soundcard to
install from the list that WinXP gives me; I chose Soundblaster and
Legacy soundcards/drivers, then Windows XP creates entrys in the
system hardware for a soundblaster soundcard (which is not really
installed) and has legacy entries in the multimedia section, while the
Ensoniq card remains uninstalled with the yellow exclamation mark over
it. Is this the correct approach? and do I continue until I find
something that wakes up the Ensoniq card? Or am I going about this
all wrong?
Thanks,

Hello
Well 2 options
1. You can search on google.com for drivers for that card
2. Go to the mfg of who makes that card and look for drivers
3. Or just replace it

Alvan,
Thanks, but your 3 options are well known, here are my questions:
1. I've heard that generic WinXP drivers can be made to work for this
soundcard. How is this (forcing the WinXP generic soundcard drivers to
load on this pnp soundcard) done exactly?
2. (Using the approach I described) Is this the correct approach? and
do I continue until I find something that wakes up the Ensoniq card?
Thanks,
Dale

Have you run a google search for this? Contacted the manafacturers
for help? I'm thinking you probably have and have come up empty,
so.....

I don't know if you are using the correct approach, but since it
hasn't worked, I'd say no. As for continuing, that's entirely up to
you. You may just have to face the fact that your old soundcard just
isn't going to work with XP, give up, and buy a new card that will.
You can buy a new card that will work just as well, if not better,
without a major outlay of cash.

If you're trying to install unsigned drivers, go to the System control
panel, Hardware tab, Driver Signing button. I use the "warn" option. From
what you say, your Windows installation has the "block" option checked,
which prevents unsigned drivers from being installed.
If you're trying to force-install some drivers that XP doesn't recognize as
appropriate for your sound hardware, you could get better help by posting
what the sound hardware is. Someone may be able to point you to good
drivers. (If your sound hardware is old, I'm a little surprised that XP
didn't include drivers. It certainly supported my old SB Live Value card,
although much better drivers were available than the limited ones in XP.)
Good luck.

For me, I guess it is the challenge of getting the card going,
learning how to do it etc. especially after getting some information
that it can be done. It gives me something to talk about with my
friends. I've made a lot of progress on stuff that doesn't work after
others have told me to give up. Yes, I know I can get a new e'cheapo
card for $15, what is the fun in that?
I found THE NT driver for this card on the archives for the company
that bought out the original, but WinXP doesn't recognize it, because
its for NT? Is there a way to force this driver to install?
Thanks,
