View Full Version : Crash, IRQ and loop errors

My PC crashes randomly, I suspect due to IRQ/memory
conflict. How do I change the IRQ of my ATI & modem
cards so they are not sharing IRQ 16. I can't get hold
of XP certified drivers for my Modem card (ITex ADSL). I
assume APCI is stopping me from doing this manually.
I have no crashes when Modem card is removed from PCI
slot.
Also
Why is my AGP card shown as a PCI card under Interrupt
requests in Device manager?

Hi, Rowan.
We could help you more intelligently if we knew more about your computer.
Make and model? AT motherboard or ATX? APM or ACPI? All these factors
bear on the IRQ problems.
For your AGP/PCI question: Is your mobo BIOS set to use AGP first? Do you
need to enable an IRQ for AGP?
WinXP, especially with an ACPI motherboard, should manage IRQs for all your
hardware without needing help from you. I don't recognize that modem; is it
a plug'n'play model? If not, it probably would be best to install it first,
manually selecting an IRQ that it can work with. Then install all your PnP
devices and let WinXP detect them and assign IRQs other than the one the
modem is using.
Maybe a hardware guru will be along soon with better ideas. ;^}
