winsock installation

I have been having trouble with my PC slot and ethernet
card and somewhere during my troubleshooting and swapping
cards in and out I got a winsock not completely installed
error (10106) - can I just replace the winsock.dll file
from my xp cd to the 'now seems to be corrupted' file
that is on my hard drive? I am hoping the solution is
not to reload xp - can't do that without wiping
everything out, right?
