New computer has window xp - Works 2000 - now unable to
read or work with any files from Windows98(Word) - Word
and Works aren't compatible - is there any answer to this?

They are not compatible. I have no idea why MS perpetuates this crap.
Simple to use? Yes. But it can't exchange files with anything, which makes
it about useless, except perhaps for writing reports that will only be
printed and turned in, or keeping a diary you don't want anyone else to
read.

WORKS cab save files and open files with several different
applications, you just have to get the plug-ins and use the
built-in converters and save options Just like all
programs.
And MS has offered WORKS SUITE with the full WORD program
included at a price far less than buying WORD as a stand
alone.
Greedy *******s!!! (LOL)
