zip250 problem

When I hook up my external zip 250 parallel port drive,
my computer becomes extremely slow. I've downloaded
Iomega's drives, and I have enabled legacy plug and play
detection. What can I do to get the zip to interface
correctly w/ my computer? Any help will be greatly
appreciated.

Parallel port devices are notorious unreliable and fiddly, I would
seriously consider getting a USB 2 Zip drive instead.
