I use my A drive to save financial files that I update on
a weekly basis (through excel) and everything saves fine
onto the disk. But every few weeks when I go to save to it
I get the error "A is not accessible - the disk media is
not recognized it may not be formatted" and the only way
to correct it is to format the disk - the disk will not
even work in other computers. What is causing this? Could
it be because I'm writing to it so much?

There could be several reasons:

a) the floppy disk is wearing out
b) the floppy drive is wearing out
b) the head on the floppy drive is out of alignment

If the disk reads OK in other PCs, suspect the actual floppy drive.
If the disk cannot be read in other PCs, suspect the floppy disk.

(Or of course, it can be a combination of both a) and b)
