Can anyone advise me? I have a broadband connection. The settings run from
the standard Microsoft dial up connection. The problem is I sometimes want
to use the computer without being connected to the internet (Strange I
know). However on startup it connects automatically and if you disconnect,
it will re-start the connection. I have uncheck everything I can and the
computer is not currently on modem share. Any ideas?

As far as I know, ADSL is supposed to be always on.
Is your modem a usb or ethernet connection?
You could always either disconect the usb , ethernet or direct line.....

Adsl is not always on. Disconnecting the USB via the taskbar option really
isn't what I had in mind!!!

No, there are two types. One type is always on. The other
requires dialing up.

What connection preferences have you selected in Internet Explorer (or other
browser that you have) and in your email programs. "Never" will require you
to double click the connection icon to establish a connection. Have any
programs setup to initiate a connection to check for updates?
