problem with losing windows default sounds

i can listen to mp3s and cds no worries all my program
sounds are fine but alot of my windows sounds dont work
if i go into sound schemes they are listed and work there
but dont when in windows ie start up and exit tune doesnt
play the start navigation click doesnt work and the error
wav doesnt work either i have a sb live 5.1 i have tried
updating drivers and everything
