sudden drop in hardrive space

I was using my computer when all of a sudden my harddrice
space dropped from 20gb to 573mb. How can I fix this
problem?

First - run Disk Cleanup. (Start -> Help & Support -> search for "Disk
Cleanup")
Second - defragment (Start -> Help & Support -> search for "Defragment")
Third - run a scandisk (Start -> Help & Support -> search for "scandisk")

What is "all of a sudden" anyway? You check one minute, you have 20GB free
and you check again a few minutes later and you have ~570MB free? heh

On rare occasions I have come across 20 GB temporary video files. You
have to search around in temporary folders and data folders to find
something big like that.
