I have recently installed Windows XP Home on an AMD Duron
1gh, 256mb DDR Ram, and 15gb WD Caviar HDD. Windows works
great. Can see my new Pacific Digital Mach 52 burner in
Device Mgr, and it says device is working OK.

Burned a CD-RW at work with Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4, and
took it home to read a setup file. My CD drive read it as
an audio file, and Windows Media Player tried to play it.
I'm using Nero 5.0 at home.

Also tried to play an audio CD, and it refused to play
(sound is working fine, though otherwise).

Also tested installing software - - a game (MS Combat
Simulator II - Pacific Theater), and it autoplayed and
began the setup, so that worked.

Drive recognizes Win XP CD (used it to install Windows Fax
program.)

How can I get my new CD-RW working?

CD-RW packet burning is different from program to program...
Get Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Basic for about $10 and update
it to the latest version of 5.3.5.10 on-line at
www.roxio.com

Roxio bought Adaptec CD software a few years ago.

I suggest this because you probably can't get the office to
buy new software.

If you want, you can spend more to buy the big expensive
Roxio EZCD 6 which does DVDs and such.
