I have two pc's....both connected with a Crossover cable, on two 100 Mbps
ethernet card..... and here is my problem........tweaking programs....
It would appear that I have done something, and I don't know what (I know, I
know, I have slapped my own wrists).......
My main pc, is connected to a ADSL (512) internet connection..... I have had
my pc just sitting there, with just a connection, nothing else, and yet,
when I go to the other pc, and try to view a web page, some pages, fly to
the screen, untill a link is clicked, and then I am getting about 2Kbps a
second, I don't know what has been changed.... I don't know if it is on my
pc, or the missus pc....
File sharing isn't a problem, files can be transfered over at there normal
speeds?
I am confident using REGEDIT, so if anybody can point me in the right
direction, it would be most appreciated....
Thanks in advance..
Paul.

What connection does the primary computer have to the ADSL
modem?
Assuming that the computer has two NICs, and you use on NIC
to the modem and one to the second computer, it could be an
internal issue with the CPU having to control two budget NIC
cards that depend on CPU handling the operations. Some NICs
have a CPU and some depend on the mainboard CPU.
I think that you might be well served by purchasing a router
so either computer could connect to the Internet
independently. This would eliminate the cross-over cable
and the need for two NICs in one computer. Neither computer
would be "master" and you could still connect if the "main"
computer was out of service.
But before you do that, why not remove the present network
connection and let XP wizard create a new connection, that
will put your settings at "normal."

It is using a USB Acatel (however you spell it) ADSL Modem, looks like a
stingray...

They are two hardware (not onboard) Cards, and one machine is a 1.1ghz and a
1.4ghz
The modem is connected to my pc, and the two pc's are connected via a
crossover cable.

The connect was fine left than 4 days ago, there is something I have done,
which I don't know...

I tried to do that... :( Unshared everything, and done the wizard, and no
errors showed up....

I think I have rectified my problem, I had to uninstall the cards from my
Device Manager, and restarted the machine, and then I did the Network
Wizard, and it seems to have worked....
