Since I have installed windows XP professional on my
laptop things have become worse and worse. Loading,
opening documents has become extremely slow over the weeks
(even though I have a powerful processor...), my laptop is
frequently crashing, no actions can be taken with the task
manager, AOL 8 and XP seem to be in conflict constantly...
basically, it has become a nightmare!
I am using the second verson of XP, service pack 1.
Could someone tell me if they had the same problems and
how they solved them
Thank you very much

Hello
Here are a few things to look at and also do a scan on your pc
for viruses. Also you can check to see what you have running
in the background, like in your start-up and take a look at your
task manager

What model laptop do you have and how is it equipped? (Make,
model, CPU, RAM, hard drive (size, free space, virtual
memory settings).
Did you install the special drivers laptops often need that
only the laptop maker has?
How did you install, upgrade (from what) or clean install?
Have you installed Hotfix 811493? (That is a problem that
has been the cause of slow operation)
How often do you defrag?
AOL will conflict with (so will MSN Explorer) because those
want to use their settings and they run lots of "service"
that will use system cycles.
Do you have the MS XP Pro CDs? What other software do you
run, such as Office, Paintshop, games, chat/IM whatever, how
many of these are loaded at startup?

AOL hell. AOL conflict with itself at times. Have you tried to uninstall
it and check things out to make sure it is not having a problem. Have you
ran a virus checker and defraged and scandisk lately.
