I am stumped! I installed Windows XP on a Dell latitude
CPxH Pentium III 450 mhz with 512 RAM. Another latitude
(same model) with only 256 RAM that I installed Windows XP
on is working fine. However, the first model I mentioned
has a terrible screechy noice whenever it plays a windows
audio file. If it plays music from a cd it sounds fine.
But every time I boot up it plays this horrible noise with
the original sound faintly in the background. I have
tried updating drivers, uninstalling drivers, updating the
BIOS, etc. (even putting the original memory chips back
in). Nothing seems to work except disabling the sound
altogher. Can you help me?

I had the same problem only it wasn't on
a Dell. Solved it by disabling programs that
were loaded during boot. Don't know if
that will fix your problem or not but
something to try. Of courese is both computer
load the same programs then?

Thank you, I will try disabling some of those programs
that load during boot.
