I read the response to my question on signing on to
desktop in Windows XP without the system bringing up the
users screen in boot up. One of the requirements to boot
up to the desk top directly was that I have only one user
on the computer. I now have a user called ASP.NET
Machine. This was just added recently by a net passpost
upgrade in windows update. I think since I now have two
users that that is the reason the user screen comes up
during bootup. Can I delete this user account since I am
the only one using this PC without doing any damage to XP
or future system updates?

Hi Gary,

Yes, you can delete the asp.net account created by the .net framework =
update.

If you still get the logon screen, start/run CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 and =
uncheck the box requiring a username and password. Click apply/ok and =
follow the prompts to create a default logon.
